IPTV on a smart TV: Samsung and LG, no box needed
A Samsung or LG smart TV can play IPTV on its own, with a player app from the TV’s built-in app store. Most of these apps are free to install and then charge a small one-time activation fee per TV, paid to the app’s developer. Setup takes about fifteen minutes. The guide below covers which app fits your TV’s age, what each one costs, the exact order of steps and the fixes for the usual problems.

Pick an app
Which IPTV player apps work on Samsung and LG TVs?
Samsung TVs run Tizen and LG TVs run webOS. Neither system lets you install apps from outside its own store, so you choose from the player apps listed there. These are the ones our customers use most, with the terms their developers publish.
| App | Works on | Cost, from the developer* | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart IPTV | Samsung Tizen 6.5+ (2022 and newer), LG webOS 3.0+; an older version for LG Netcast and webOS 1 and 2 | One-time €5.49 per TV | Ask the developer |
| SET IPTV | Samsung and LG | Lifetime activation per TV; the price shown depends on your region | 7 days |
| IBO Player | Samsung, LG and other platforms | Paid licence per TV after the trial, no refunds | 7 days |
| IPTV Smarters | Some Samsung models | Free listing | Not needed |
*Read on the developers’ own websites on November 4, 2026. Smart IPTV charges in euros, so your card shows the Canadian dollar amount on the day you pay. Store listings change; check your TV’s store before you buy anything.
Activation fees go to the app maker, not to us
We do not sell these apps and we cannot refund their fees. Use the app’s own trial and our free 24-hour trial at the same time, so you see the channels on your TV before you pay anyone.
Your TV’s age matters
How do you know which version your TV can run?
Samsung
Smart IPTV’s current version needs Tizen 6.5 or newer, which means a 2022 or later model. On the TV, open Settings, then Support, then About This TV to see the model year code. On older Samsung sets, SET IPTV or IBO Player are the usual picks.
LG
Smart IPTV runs on webOS 3.0 and newer, and the developer still offers an older version for Netcast and webOS 1 and 2. On the TV, open Settings, then Support, then TV Information to see the webOS version.
IPTV Smarters is a special case on Samsung. Its listings on Samsung’s US web store were last updated in 2023, and on some newer TVs it may not appear in the store at all. If you cannot find it, pick one of the other apps in the table.
Step by step
How do you set up IPTV on a smart TV from Samsung or LG?
- Open the TV’s app store. On Samsung, press Home and choose Apps. On LG, press Home and open the Apps store (older models call it LG Content Store).
- Search and install the player. Type the app name, select it and choose Install. It is free to install.
- Note the device ID. Open the app. Most of these players show a MAC address or device key on the first screen. Take a photo of it.
- Send us the ID. Message our support chat with the photo. For apps that load your channel list through the developer’s website, we tell you exactly what to enter there, or we enter it with you.
- Restart the app. Close the app fully and open it again. The channels and the TV guide load in a minute or two.
- Activate before the app’s trial ends. If you keep the service, pay the app’s activation fee from the developer’s site or inside the app, then choose a plan with us.
When you order, we send these steps written for your exact TV and app. Logins go out within minutes of an Interac or card payment during support hours, and instantly with PayPal.
Picture quality
What does a smart TV need for smooth 4K and HD?
We recommend about 25 Mbps for each 4K stream and about 10 Mbps for each HD stream watched in your home at the same time. TVs often sit far from the router, and their built-in Wi-Fi is weaker than a phone’s. Our internet speed guide shows how to test the speed at the TV itself.
Use the Ethernet port
Almost every Samsung and LG smart TV has one. A cable to the router is the single biggest fix for buffering on a TV.
Turn off motion smoothing for sports
Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus and LG calls it TruMotion. Some viewers find live sports look more natural with it off.
When it goes wrong
Common smart TV problems and fixes
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The app is not in the store | Your TV is too old or too new for that app | Try another app from the table |
| The app says the playlist is empty | The channel list was not linked to your device ID | Send us a photo of the app’s first screen |
| The app stopped working after a week | The app’s own trial ended | Pay the app’s activation fee, or switch apps |
| Channels buffer in the evening | Weak Wi-Fi at the TV | Use an Ethernet cable, then see our buffering fixes |
| The guide shows the wrong shows | Wrong time zone in the app | Set your province’s time zone in the app |

What a smart TV setup will not do
You cannot install apps from outside Samsung’s or LG’s store, so if no listed player supports your TV, you need a streaming device instead. Our guides for Fire TV Stick and Android TV boxes cover the cheapest options. Activation fees are paid to the app developers, and their refund rules apply.
Questions
Smart TV IPTV questions
Can I watch IPTV on a Samsung smart TV without a box?
Yes. Install a player app such as Smart IPTV or SET IPTV from the Samsung app store and add the login we send you. No extra device is needed.
What is the best IPTV app for an LG TV?
Smart IPTV is a simple choice on LG because it supports webOS 3.0 and newer, plus an older version for Netcast and webOS 1 and 2. Its developer charges a one-time €5.49 per TV.
Why do these apps charge an activation fee?
The apps are made by independent developers who charge a small fee per TV after a trial. That fee goes to them, not to us, and their refund rules apply.
Do I pay the app fee again if I change TVs?
Usually yes. Activation is tied to each TV’s device ID, so a new TV needs its own activation.
Can I try the service on my TV before paying?
Yes. Ask for the free 24-hour trial on WhatsApp and tell us your TV brand and model year. No card is needed.
How quickly do I get my login after paying?
Within minutes for Interac and card payments during support hours, and instantly for PayPal. Support runs 9 am to 11 pm Eastern, every day.
