Troubleshooting · step by step

IPTV buffering? Work through these 8 fixes in order

Most IPTV buffering starts between your router and your TV, so that’s where to begin. Test the speed on the device itself, restart the device and the router, switch to Ethernet if you can, clear the player app’s cache, lower the stream quality, check the date and time, and try another channel. If it still stutters after that, send our support team the details listed below and we work through it with you on WhatsApp.

One minute of triage

What is your buffering telling you?

Before changing anything, notice the pattern. The way a stream stalls points to where the problem sits, and saves you from trying every fix at once.

The fix order

How to fix IPTV buffering in 8 steps

This is the order our support team follows, from the most common cause to the least common. Try a channel after each step, so you know which one fixed it.

  1. Test the speed at the deviceRun a speed test on the TV, stick or box itself, or with a phone held beside it on the same Wi-Fi. You want about 10 Mbps for each HD stream and 25 Mbps for each 4K stream playing in the house at that moment. Test at the hour the buffering happens. Our internet speed guide has the full table for 1 to 4 screens.
  2. Restart the device and the routerUnplug both from power for about 30 seconds, plug the router back in first, wait until its lights settle, then start the TV device. Standby is not the same as a restart. This one step clears a surprising share of problems.
  3. Switch to EthernetA wired connection is more stable than Wi-Fi. If the TV or box has an Ethernet port and the router is within reach, connect it and test again. If a cable isn’t possible, move the router to an open, central spot or bring the signal closer to the TV.
  4. Clear the player app’s cacheOpen the device’s settings, find the list of installed apps, choose your player app and clear its cache. Clear the cache only: clearing the app’s data can remove your login and settings, and then you would need to enter them again.
  5. Lower the stream quality4K needs about two and a half times the speed of HD. If a channel is offered in more than one quality, pick the HD or FHD version, or lower the quality setting in your app if it has one. If two screens are in 4K at once, move one of them to HD.
  6. Check the date, time and time zoneA device with the wrong date or time can have trouble connecting, and the guide will be off by hours. Set the device to automatic date and time and choose your own time zone, for example Eastern in Ontario and Québec.
  7. Try another channelIf other channels play smoothly, the problem is likely one stream. Note the exact channel name and the time it happened. That is exactly what support needs to check it.
  8. Contact support with the detailsIf you have done steps 1 to 7 and it still buffers, message us on WhatsApp with the information listed in the next section. Support runs 9 am to 11 pm Eastern, seven days a week, in English and French.

By device

Buffering tips for your device

Fire TV Stick and Cube

Fully unplug the stick for a restart. Keep the player app updated and remove apps you never use, so the stick has free storage and memory to work with.

Android TV and Google TV

On boxes like Chromecast with Google TV or NVIDIA Shield, use the Ethernet port if there is one, and close other apps running in the background before a big game.

Samsung and LG smart TVs

Turning the TV off with the remote often puts it in standby. Unplug it for 30 seconds for a real restart, and check that the player app is up to date in the TV’s store.

Setup steps for each of these, plus Apple TV, MAG and Formuler boxes, phones and computers, are on our devices page.

Contact support

What to send us so we can fix it faster

A message that says “it’s buffering” starts a long back-and-forth. A message with these six details often gets an answer in one reply.

  • Your device, for example Fire TV Stick, Samsung TV or NVIDIA Shield.
  • The player app you use, for example TiviMate or Smart IPTV.
  • The channel name, exactly as it appears in your list.
  • When it happened, with the time and your time zone.
  • Your speed test result, taken on or right beside the device.
  • A photo or short video of the screen if an error message appears.

Honest limits

What we can’t fix from our side

Some causes of IPTV buffering sit outside what support can change remotely. It is better to know them up front.

  • Your Wi-Fi coverage. We can tell you the Wi-Fi link to the TV is the problem, but walls and router placement are in your home.
  • Your internet provider’s network. If your connection is slow or down, every stream is affected. IPTV needs a working connection.
  • A channel’s source. A stream can only be as good as what the broadcaster sends, and 4K only exists where the source broadcasts it.
  • An older device at its limit. Some older sticks and TVs can’t keep up with 4K, whatever the speed.

When the problem is on our side, we say so. If we confirm an outage on our side that lasts more than 24 continuous hours, your plan is extended by the length of the outage.

Testing for the first time? Run these checks during the free 24-hour trial on the TV you will actually use. If a trial fails for a technical reason, support can extend it or give you a second one. More about the service is on the Diablos IPTV home page.

FAQ

IPTV buffering questions

Why does my IPTV keep buffering?

Most often the speed reaching the TV is too low at that moment, usually because of weak Wi-Fi or other devices using the connection. Test the speed on the device itself, restart the device and router, and use Ethernet if you can.

Why does it only buffer in the evening?

Evenings are when the most devices in your home, and the most homes around you, are online. Pause big downloads, use Ethernet for the main TV and run extra screens in HD.

Will a faster internet plan stop buffering?

Only if speed at the device is the real limit. If the Wi-Fi signal to the TV is weak, a faster plan still has to cross the same walls. Test at the TV before upgrading.

Does clearing the cache delete my login?

Clearing the cache does not. Clearing the app’s data can, so choose the cache option only.

Only one channel buffers. What should I do?

Send us the exact channel name and the time it happened on WhatsApp. If other channels play smoothly, the issue is likely that one stream, and we can check it.

Can the time zone setting really cause problems?

Yes. A wrong date or time can affect how the app connects, and a wrong time zone puts the TV guide off by hours. Set automatic date and time and your own time zone.
